It is interesting that over 2 years ago, Mark Williams and I met with the Welsh Minister of Health to discuss the lack of perinatal mental health services in Wales. Mark had worked tirelessly to raise the profile about the lack of a Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) and had collected over 14,000 signatures in his petition to reinstate the Unit in Cardiff. On the BBC News Wales, tonight (26th March), the Plaid Cymru AM Steffan Lewis called the situation (the lack of a MBU) a “scandal”.

On the 10th July 2014 I was quoted by the Wales online ( ) “Dr Jane Hanley, President of the International Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health at Swansea University, said: “This is of concern for everyone in Wales who is pregnant or knows someone who has recently had a baby’.

I suppose it is of some consolation that 2 years 9 months later that folk still find it a travesty that there is NO MBU in Wales. Let’s hope the power of the Third Sector has more influence than the professionals!
